HULISHAN FORT
This fort was built in the century in the village of Huli, south of Xiamen Island
Built in the 19th century in the Siming district, south of Xiamen Island, the Hulishan fort, now a tourist attraction, is based on a unique mixture of sand, clay, lime and glutinous rice, used to reinforce its structure. Originally, it was equipped with a hundred cannons to defend the coast. Today, the only one still standing is an imposing German-made Krupp cannon, installed in 1893. Approximately 12.85 metres long and weighing almost 50 tonnes, it was purchased for 60,000 taëls of silver at the time.
