WUYISHAN NATIONAL PARK
A reserve where you can come across hawks, partridges, protected felines and giant salamanders...
Wuyishan National Park is a Unesco World Heritage natural and cultural wonder. This spectacular site, traversed by the Nine Meanders River, offers a striking landscape of red sandstone mountains, lush forests and strangely shaped rock formations. You'll need at least one or two days to appreciate its diversity. Steep peaks, including the famous Tianyou Mountain, seem to pierce the sky, while the morning mist adds a touch of mystery to the cliffs. The river meanders between these reliefs, and a descent on a bamboo raft is an unforgettable experience. Wuyishan is also a hotbed of Chinese culture and spirituality. It was once an important center of Taoism and Confucianism, and the remains of temples and monasteries can be found scattered throughout the natural landscape.
The park is also famous for its tea: here grows the legendary Da Hong Pao, one of China's most prestigious oolong teas. Grown on steep cliffs, this tea with its woody, floral notes is surrounded by a veritable cult.
Wuyishan is a paradise for nature lovers. From peaceful hikes to breathtaking trails, there's something for everyone. Birds, toads and butterflies enliven the landscape, adding a lively touch to this spectacular environment.
A recommended day trip includes a bamboo rafting trip, a visit to Wuyi Palace, a climb to Tianyou Peak, the Da Hong Pao tea trail and finally the Water Curtain Cave. This itinerary is quite demanding and can be split into two days for a more relaxed exploration, allowing the addition of other peaks such as Dawan, Yunu and Huxiao Cliff. Another curiosity not to be missed is the A Thread of Sky cave, a spectacular narrow passage carved out of the rock.
Practical. The park is well organized and buses run regularly between the various points of interest, with directions in English. Access to the park is via the South Entrance Gate, the largest and most convenient entrance, just a five-minute cab or bus ride (lines 6 and 9) from the city. To the price of the park, add 130 RMB per person for the bamboo raft trip.
Wuyishan is a superb national park, offering remarkable scenery and unforgettable walks. A highly recommended visit for nature lovers!
