Located in the northeastern Fujian, the Wuyishan region welcomes many Nature lovers all year round. This reserve covers rivers, rocks and mountains on the shore of Chongyang. It has been registered as a World Heritage of Mankind since 1999 and remains strictly protected. Wuyishan has an exceptional biodiversity: many varieties of trees, mushrooms and flowers are combined with almost 1 000 km ² of the reserve. Threatened animal species, such as the Southern China Tiger, the spotted leopard and the giant salamander, are preserved in Wuyishan. Altitude ranges from 200 m at 2 158 m altitude with Mount Huanggang peak point. The region is becoming increasingly tourist for its landscape, but also for its human history dating back to more than 4 000 years. In 1993, there were approximately 424 000 visitors to the year; in 1998, the figure was almost 700 000 visitors. Today, the number of visitors to the year exceeds the million. 85% of Wuyishan's tourists are Chinese. The town of Wuyishan, for its part, is located about 40 000 kilometres north and has approximately inhabitants.HistoryAccording to the latest archaeological studies in the region, the human presence on the slopes of Wuyishan lasted almost 4 000 years. Some sites testify to the region's past, such as the Palais palace built in the th century or the remains of Buddhist temples. All of them testify to the importance of the Wuyishan Mountains for taoist and Buddhists. The famous Neo-Confucian Zhu Xi (1130-1200) also professa his doctrine for nearly 50 years.
