This 2,872 km-long river rises in the Wuyi Mountains
This 2,872 km-long river rises in the Wuyi Mountains on the border between Fujian and Jiangxi. Fujian's main river, the Minjiang, whose name inspired that of the province, irrigates a basin of 60,000 km². In the 50 km between Fuzhou and its estuary, the Minjiang is celebrated for its unique beauty. Its banks are home to architectural treasures testifying to its historical importance, such as the Temple of the Golden Mountain, the Five Tigers Gate, Minjiang Fort and the port of Mawei, once strategic for maritime trade.
