SIX-HARMONY PAGODA
This octagonal pagoda of 13 levels was built under the Song in 970. With a height of 60 m, this wooden structure with a brick filling is called the same name as the temple located nearby. The Six Harmonies pagoda was once illuminated and served as a benchmark for river navigation. It would also have a beneficial effect on the tidal wave of the river. The building underwent significant reconstruction in 1900 as well as two renovations since liberation. The 13 externally visible levels really only represent 7 floors. A replica of this exceptional historic monument was sponsored by Qianlong on the hill in the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) in Beijing. Its height distorted the game of perspective rendered by the artificial hill and the emperor demolished it.
From the top of the pagoda, we have a magnificent view of the top of the tower on the valley of Qiantang Jiang.
The double deck bridge (rail and road) below was built between 1934 and 1937. This art book by a Chinese engineer (Mao Yishen), a perfect scientific master, is a great national pride.
