SHANGRI-LA HOTEL
The hotel is nestled in lush hills on the northwest shores of Western lake. A beautiful place to live at the rhythm of this fascinating city. This set of buildings in Chinese neoclassical style was built for Mao Zedong in the 1950 s with the help of Soviet advisers. It was necessary to destroy the Fei Temple Li, installed on the premises. The workers, outraged by such a sacrilege, would put tombstones on the steps to the west to throw the Russians bad. History doesn't tell what happened to them… The auditorium in the west of the hotel was built especially for one of its speeches, but never used. The hotel has been modernized to meet international standards: 387 spacious rooms with views of the lake. It is now a very nice and luxurious hotel.
