CHIESA DI SAN FRANCESCO

This neo-classical church was built on the site of another 13th century church, of which part of the original façade remains. It depends on the neighbouring Franciscan monastery. The Ionic columns of the façade support a tympanum, reminiscent of a Greek temple. Inside, it preserves a very valuable piece of popular veneration, a polychrome crucifix called Crocifisso di Nicodemo, a Gothic work by an anonymous Catalan artist from the late 15th century. His life-size Christ is impressively realistic.
