Towers built by the Doria family in the 12th century, then fortified by the Catalan-Aragonese

Built by the Doria family in the 12th century and then fortified by the Catalan-Aragonese. The old town of Alghero was surrounded by a thick defensive wall with watchtowers. Although refurbished, it is still possible to walk along these ramparts, ideally at sunset. The fortifications are therefore punctuated by several towers: the tower of La Maddalena, the octagonal tower of San Giacomo, built in the 15th century, the tower of the Espero Reial from the 16th century, measuring more than 25 m high, and the tower of the Portal from the 14th century.

Superbes remparts qui offrent une vue magnifique sur la mer et les environs. Il est possible de profiter d'un coucher de soleil fabuleux si on a la chance d'y être à ce moment là. Les remparts étaient faites pour se protéger des ennemis donc il reste quelques catapultes, canons...sympa à faire découvrir à des enfants.

En visite à alghero après la grotte, ne pas manquer de faire un tour du centre historoque en commençant par les remparts et bastions. Plusieurs tours sont encore intactes. Des canons et reproduction de catapultes décorent le parcours. Belle vue sur capo caccia au loin. Ne pas hésiter aussi à rentrer dans les ruelles de la ville.
