Monument dating from the Renaissance, which became the symbol of the city of Sassari

At the very beginning of Viale Umberto, a stone staircase, the Col di Lana, leads to the amazing Fountain del Rosello. This monument dates back to the Renaissance and has become the symbol of the city. Once the meeting place of the notables of Sassari, this fountain is still very important to the people of the town. It dates back to the 16th century, was destroyed and rebuilt, and damaged during the revolts of 1795. It symbolizes the passing of time, with its 12 lion-headed mouths that refer to the calendar months, and its 4 statues of the four seasons.
