Halls Creek lies 360 km south of Kununurra, on the Great Northern Highway that links Perth to the north of the state and, further afield, to Darwin. It's also where the Tanami Road begins (or ends), the legendary 4X4 track that takes you to Alice Springs (for experienced drivers only, plan your route well). The town serves as the administrative and assembly center for the region's farms. It is the only urban center for tourists within a 600 km radius. 60% of the population is of Aboriginal origin (Jaru, Kija and Tjurabalan) and lives in very difficult conditions. Go to the Moola Bulla Lookout for great views.
