Cradle Mountain, located in the Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park, is an iconic Tasmanian destination. The park is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty, with ancient moss-covered forests, deep gorges, snow-capped peaks, wild alpine moors and glacial lakes. Cradle Mountain offers diverse and breathtaking scenery all year round. In winter, you can admire deep snowdrifts, while in autumn, the mountain slopes turn yellow, orange and red thanks to the Fagus tree, a deciduous tree endemic to Tasmania. In spring, you can watch young kangaroos and hungry echidnas, while in summer, you can swim in the crystal-clear lakes and enjoy the scent of wild flowers. Wildlife is abundant in this park, offering opportunities to spot Tasmanian devils, quolls, platypus, echidnas, wombats and inquisitive black crows. The park also offers a world-class network of hiking trails, from short, easy strolls to the legendary Overland Track, a 5-6 day hike that stretches 80 km from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair.
