A site for observing 33 cm pygmy penguins (native to Australia), the smallest of their species.

Every evening, at dusk, hundreds of little penguins, some thirty centimeters tall, leave the ocean to join their burrows on the beach of Summerland, Phillip Island. To witness this spectacle, it's advisable to arrive an hour before sunset, and to bring warm clothing, even in summer, as evenings can be chilly. Photography is strictly forbidden to protect the penguins. Observation platforms and elevated walkways allow you to admire the parade without disturbing them.

What a circus! Moreover Visitor Center looks like a big top. You will feel the pressures which had to be played between the tourist requirements and the guardians of Nature: on the one hand, the concrete steps facing the sea that can accommodate hundreds of spectators every evening; other, a very well designed (vision in nests penguins) despite its eternal shop… You can see the same show on the other beaches on the Great Ocean Road or more intimate Tasmania but…
