Isolated from the rest of the world, Lizard Island perfectly embodies the wild landscapes of a dream island where the sky merges with the sea. A diver's paradise, this national park boasts no fewer than 24 white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters: any excuse to take a dip. Despite two consecutive hurricanes damaging some of the coral, this is one of the most famous reefs (Cod Hole) for snorkeling and diving. Over 40 species of birds and 11 species of lizards have been recorded on the island. Lizard Island is accessible by air from Cairns airport.
