MOUNT YORK
A 1,061 m high mountain that enabled William Lawson and William Wentworth to find a passage to colonize the western part of the continent.
At an altitude of 1,061 metres, this mountain is a milestone in Australian history. It was from here, in 1813, 25 years after the arrival of the first fleet in Sydney, that Gregory Blaxland, William Lawson and William Wentworth first "saw" the passage that was to be used to cross the Blue Mountains and colonize the west of the continent. All the roads that had been started (including the Coxs Road) across Mount York had to be abandoned in favor of what is now the Great Western Hwy.
