The Steyne is an iconic landmark in Manly and, more generally, in the upscale, residential Northern Beaches area of Sydney's north, as the name suggests. The brick building was constructed in the ^mid-19th century, but has since been rebuilt and renovated. The Steyne is actually quite a huge complex, comprising a hotel, several bars and restaurants. On Friday and Saturday nights, the atmosphere changes radically, with the inner courtyard taking on the appearance of an open-air nightclub where all Manly's party-goers gather.
