SAINT-MARC CATHOLIC CHURCH

The small church of St. Mark's, next to the Solomos and Kalvos Museum, in the lively square of the same name, is the only Catholic church on the island. This church was inaugurated in 1518 as the chapel of the Franciscan monastery. It also housed a modest bishopric (but since abolished). Earthquakes took their toll on the church, which was later rebuilt, albeit on a smaller scale, in the same location. It is now only in use in summer.
