2- Facing Corfu, Vido

Located opposite Corfu, Vido is a tiny islet where we enjoyed making a stopover. The island is less than a kilometer long, and tranquillity reigns supreme. The island is now a nature reserve, and can be reached in just 10 minutes by boat. No cars! Use the hiking trails to reach the beaches. Admire the monument to the Serbs who died here during the Second World War. For a bite to eat, there's just one taverna on the island.

3- Discover Kefalonia

Despite its pretty nickname of "half-forgotten island", Kefalonia is attracting more and more visitors with its beautiful beaches and contrasting nature. In particular, it is the most mountainous island in the archipelago. Many travellers come here to discover Lake Melinassi and its cave, one of the most famous in Greece. 4- Follow in Ulysses' footsteps to Ithaca

In Homer'sOdyssey , it's fromIthaca that Ulysses sets off on his long voyage, and it's in Ithaca that Penelope patiently awaits him, weaving and reweaving her work. Where reality meets fiction: the island is small, simple and touching. Its two mountain ranges surround a small horseshoe-shaped port and a few villages. In fact, it's one of the ideal destinations for avoiding the crowds in Greece.

5- What to do in the Ionian Islands? Go to Zakynthos

Zakynthos, or Zante, is an island built around its port and maritime activity. It nevertheless boasts some beautiful natural gems and is home to the country's first marine nature park. Navagio beach is one of Greece's most Instagrammable spots. Between its turquoise waters and steep cliffs, you can admire (from afar!) the rusting wreck of the Panagiotis, a ship that ran aground in 1980.

The most Italian of the Greek islands. A picture-postcard island, Paxos lies just below Corfu. Here you'll find pretty villages, small coves with turquoise waters and secluded beaches. Its rugged terrain and numerous hiking trails make it a perfect destination for nature lovers. But beware: the island is frequented by wealthy tourists in summer. So avoid this time of year, as prices are likely to soar.

7- And Antipaxos

The little sister of Paxos, Antipaxos is the stuff of dreams, with its blue waters and sandy beaches. This lush green island is sparsely populated and fairly confidential. Don't look for accommodation here, as there are no hotels. Only a few tavernas will welcome you for keftedes and tzatziki. Visit the hill overlooking the bay to taste the island's wine.

Quite well known in the archipelago, Lefkada is renowned for its breathtaking beaches and coves. In ancient times, it was one of the largest and most influential Greek cities. You can visit Nidri, one of the most important seaside resorts in the area, discover the castle of Agia Mavra or Agios Nikitas, a pretty fishing village.

9- Kastos

Looking for a little peace and quiet? The island of Kastos fits the bill perfectly. There are no cars on the island. The locals get around only on foot or by boat. Explore Kastos and discover its little coves, stroll along the paths and zigzag between vineyards and olive groves. For a little entertainment, the port of Kastos is home to a number of restaurants and bars.

10- Getting to Skorpios

Skorpios is a private islet. You won't be able to walk around it, although you can take a boat tour and swim in the surrounding area. Formerly owned by the Onassis family, a 20th-century Greek shipowner, the island remains under close surveillance. It was sold in 2013 to an anonymous Russian billionaire.

11- Visit Thilia

Located between Lefkada and Meganissi, Thilia is a tiny, uninhabited island. However, you can moor here if you take a boat trip in the area. This secluded spot allows you to enjoy the region's beautiful beaches, without having to put up with the crowds. From here, you can also enjoy views of Lefkada and its mountains.

More mountainous and rugged than its neighbors, Kalamos still boasts some magnificent beaches. Don't hesitate to explore the island on foot: you'll discover small villages, the ruins of a fort and a waterside chapel. The more courageous can climb to the top of Mount Vouni to admire beautiful views of the sea and surrounding islands.

13- Discover Cythere

Kythera is another of Greece's best destinations for avoiding the crowds. Since ancient times, it has been renowned as the island of Aphrodite. Unlike its distant neighbors, the island is dry and arid. There are few inhabitants, but many well-preserved landscapes and pretty, unspoilt beaches. Several hiking trails lead you to coves, cliffs and caves.

Around Lefkada, Meganisi is the only island served by ferry from Nidri. Allow around 20 minutes for the crossing. Like many of its neighbors, the island is dotted with green hills and surrounded by turquoise waters. There are numerous white sandy beaches and a few pebble beaches. There are only three villages on the island, so we recommend a visit to the small fishing port of Vathy .
