PALIKI PENINSULA

On this part of the island, the market gardening is developed but the mountains are dry. You can make a stop at Lixouri (about 6,000 inhabitants), built in the 16th century but destroyed by the 1953 earthquake. The Paliki peninsula is also full of beautiful beaches: Lepeda, an ochre sand beach with an incredible view of Mount Ainos; or Plati Ammos, a fine sand beach with plunging cliffs and translucent waters. The latter can only be reached by a dizzying staircase and after a short walk.
