Convent founded by a Cretan monk with a courtyard with a panoramic view of Chora.

The convent is located south-west of Chora, about 15-20 minutes' walk away. Today, it is home to some forty nuns. Dedicated to the Annunciation, it was originally founded by a Cretan monk from the monastery of St. John the Theologian, who established a chapel and hermitage here in 1613. It was not until 1937 that another monk from the monastery transformed the site into a convent, to accommodate a growing community of nuns. Access to the courtyard, drowned in greenery and bougainvillea, is free and offers superb panoramic views over the whole island.

Quel moment exceptionnel celui où nous avons pu écouter les vêpres dans ce monastère. les voix des nonnes provenant de la tribune au dessus de nous étaient prenantes! Inoubliable!
