The remains of the Gallo-Roman temple sit enthroned atop the Puy de Dôme, offering an ideal view of Augustonemetum, the ancient name of Clermont. Built two centuries after the Roman conquest of Gaul, it was the largest mountain temple in Roman Gaul. It was mainly dedicated to Mercury, protector of travelers and merchants. Unearthed at the end of the 19th century, the remains of the temple have now been partially restored and restored. Adjacent is an interpretation area where visitors can discover the secrets of the site.
