Although connected to the mainland by train and motorway, Evia is also accessible by ferry. However, the capital, Chalcis, has no connections. The nearest port is Eretria, 18 km to the south, which is accessed from the mainland by Oropos (a boat every half-hour between 7 h and 20 h, counting 30 minutes of crossing).
