The village takes its name from the monastery of Agios Lavrentios, founded in 1378. In 1823, the Ottomans burned and destroyed the village, punishing the inhabitants for their participation in the revolution. Since then, it has recovered and developed. Nowadays, it is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Pelion and, as a result, tourism has grown considerably in recent years. It comes alive especially during the cherry festival, which takes place every year on the third weekend of June.Getting there. Makrinitsa and most of the Pelion villages are well connected from Volos (https://ktelvolou.gr).
