After 16 years of renovation, the ancient palace of King Philip II - one of the most important buildings in classical Greece after the Parthenon - has reopened its doors to visitors. Famous for having been the scene of Alexander the Great's coronation in 336 BC, it is located near Vergina, the first capital of the Kingdom of Macedonia, and covers 15,000m2. It features the royal palace, destroyed by the Romans in 148 BC, a gallery of Doric columns and the agora.
