Monastery with walls decorated with frescoes of the painter Tzortis preserving books and manuscripts.
According to legend, it was founded in the second half of the 10th century by the monk Euthymios. Euthymios was also in charge of managing the oil, wine and food stocks of the monastery of Grande Lavra. The catholicon was built in the 16th century and dedicated to the archangels Michael and Gabriel. Its walls are covered with superb frescos by the famous Cretan painter, Tzortis, and testify to the great refinement of the Cretan school. Among the treasures, 545 manuscripts, including 62 in parchment, and more than 5,000 printed books.
