SIMONOPETRA

This Cenobite monastery, located half an hour from Kariès, is inhabited by monks. The original seven-storey building is located on the steep slope of the mountain and is hanging over the waves. According to tradition, it would have been built at the very place where, a Christmas night, Saint Simon lives shining. In 1990, a fire destroyed the beautiful chapel of the monastery and its frescoes of the th century.
