Monastery of great architectural importance in Thessaloniki.

At the origin of the construction of the church was the daughter of Emperor Maximian, Theodora, who had hidden an icon there so that she could pray to the Christian god in peace. The monastery is built on an older Roman building, dating from the 5th or 6th century. Ossios David is of great architectural importance as one of the first churches built on the cruciform domed plan that was later to become established in the first millennium.
