The port, which is home to pleasant cafés, bars, museums and even cinemas at the time of the Thessaloniki Film Festival, is more disappointing when it comes to escape. Indeed, although Thessaloniki is a port, its terminal functions more like a trade terminal. Much, much less active than Kavala or Alexandropouli, from where travellers usually leave in the end, the port of Thessaloniki still offers sometimes (to be watched) very convenient and pleasant connections to the Sporades between June and September.
