White monumental sculpture perched on Mount Stefani.
It is a monumental white sculpture perched on Mount Stefani, above the monastery of Saint-Démètre. It is both serious and mysterious, like the drama it is intended to recall. Produced in 1961 by George Zongolopoulos, the work commemorates the dance of Zalongo, a collective suicide of 56 Souliote women who threw themselves and their children off the cliff in 1803 to show the Ottomans that the Souliotes could not be reduced to slavery. It is located at an altitude of 700 metres on Mount Zalongo, near Prévéza.
