LÉONIDAION
To the south of the ancient site of Olympia is one of the most impressive buildings in the site: Le, built after 350 BC by Léonidas rich Naxien. It was a two-storey building, 80 m on 73,50 m, its outdoor colonnade had 138 columns while its inner colonnade had only 44. In Roman times, the central courtyard was built with a small island and a garden. This building was used to accommodate important visitors during the Games. To cope with their growing success, the Romans built two other hotels near the Léonidaion, both decorated with rich mosaics. At the north-east corner of the Léonidaion, you find the southern entrance of the sanctuary, or Altis, by which the procession of priests, athletes, notable… before the oath of the athletes taking place in the bouleutêrion.
