This half-circle construction was used to retain the water that came to Olympia thanks to a aqueduct built, too, by Herod Atticus. It's this same 3 km long aqueduct that allowed the Games spectators to cool down. All around the basin were the statues of the members of the Herod Atticus family. At the centre of construction, on the upper rim, was a statue of bull now at the museum.
