Splendid and artificial lake supplying the Greek capital with water.
The lake of Marathon is splendid. It is made up of shores lined with olive trees and a dam, built between 1926 and 1929, made of impressive marble from Mount Pentele, where cars can only pass in one lane. The lake is artificial and was created at the confluence of two streams, Barnavas and Charadros. Between 1931 and 1959, this lake supplied Athens with water. Its surface area measures 2.45 km2 and its depth reaches 54 meters. A 13 km long tunnel allowed the water from the lake to reach the Greek capital.

Originality
It is true that it is a beautiful lake. (It is a bit difficult to find for lack of panels). There are many birds on the lake. On the other hand it must there have forest fires a few times ago because most of the trees are la calcina. A small stop is nevertheless on the restaurant bar overlooking the lake (very nice views of the lake and the dam, it is relaxing) although rates consumption are a bit expensive.
