Temple of the medieval period with a single series of 36 columns with a frieze.
Dedicated to Hephaestus and Athena Ergane, as patrons of arts and crafts, the so-called Hephaestus Temple was built between 450 and 440 BC. The work of an unknown architect, the temple is also called "Thesaio", a name given during the medieval period. It is a peripteral building of Doric order, with a single series of 36 columns. The frieze was adorned with sculptures depicting battles between the Centaurs. The multicoloured fragments of the inner part of the temple are exhibited in the British Museum in London.
