On the day of the celebration of the Dormition of the Virgin, in the middle of August, several festivities take place in Greece.
The Dormition of the Virgin celebrates, among the Orthodox, what the Catholics call the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Each region promises its own set of festivities, with fairs and banquets organized where a church or monastery is dedicated to the Virgin.
