SAINT-JEAN-DE-CAPISTRAN CHURCH

The church of the Franciscan convent houses the funeral slabs of Nikola and Lovro Iločki, the owners of the fief in the fifteenth century, as well as the relics of Saint John of Capistran, an Italian monk who preached throughout Europe and died in Ilok in 1456. The whole has lost its original form, especially following the neo-Gothic restoration. During the last war, the monks undermined the church to prevent the Serbs from entering. Part of the building was damaged.
