The Samoborki Fašnik is the most famous carnival in the region. It attracts costumed crowds ready to welcome the New Year in a better way.
In the vicinity of Zagreb, it is the most colourful carnival in central Croatia, and has been since 1855! It is a real popular festival, attracting people from all over the region, all joyfully dressed up. On the program, music, masks and disguises to attend the judgment of Prince Fašnik, the scarecrow in charge of the misfortunes of the past year. He is burned on Shrove Tuesday in order to chase away the winter and its old demons and to welcome the new year under better auspices.
