A boat or dugout canoe ride between the sea and the lagoon on the Vinanibe River leads to this peaceful island, inhabited by century-old mango trees and crowned by an old fort, built in 1504 by Portuguese castaways. You will have a magnificent view of the surroundings from the fort. In the village, near the graves of the shipwrecked, you will find souvenirs and local handicrafts. For a half-day of history, a walk, and the smile of a bunch of kids (when they are not at school), the excursion to the Portuguese islet is worth the detour! Contact for example La Croix du Sud in Fort-Dauphin to organize it...
