12 km northwest of Milas, the archaeological site of Euromos shelters the only ruins of a magnificent temple of Zeus, bordered by olive trees and very well preserved. 16 of its 32 columns are still standing. The temple was built in the 2nd century in the Corinthian style and inscriptions give the names of those who contributed to its realization. The site of Euromos counted among the major urban centers in the region which controlled all the plain. The city knew many conflicts with its neighbor, Mylas. It found peace, growth and wealth when it allied itself with the Romans. The site is accessible by dolmuş or by bus from Milas to Selimiye.
