Sille is a very pretty ancient Greek village, nestled on the edge of an ancient volcano (Küçük Gevale Dağı). The peaceful valley is worth a visit. Several bridges stand alongside a dry stream and many cave dwellings are built into the cliff. With the development of Christianity, the locality took off, as evidenced by the large number of churches and monasteries. The church of Saint Helena ("Aya Eleni"), is located at the entrance of the village. It owes its name to the mother of the emperor Constantine I the Great. The rock monastery of Hagios Khariton, "the white monastery" (Akmanastır), is said to have been visited regularly by Mevlana.
