Located some fifteen kilometers from Aswan, behind the dam, the new site of Kalabcha can be an alternative if you forgo a visit to Abu Simbel. Of course, it can't compare with the monumental works at Abu Simbel. But it is more convenient to visit, and the temple, which was also relocated when the dam was built, is much less crowded. Located just a few hundred meters from the high dam, New Kalabcha was home to three monuments rescued from the waters: the Kertassi kiosk, the Beit el-Ouali temple and the Mandoulis temple. Access to the entire site (for a fee) is possible from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
