Hodi Hodi's story began more than 100 years ago, when economic migrants from war-torn Europe set sail for East Africa to try to make a new life for themselves.

There followed stories of farming, mining, the East African "lunatic express" railway, early wildlife and natural history documentaries, veterinary laboratories, colonial administration, pioneering coastal tourism, early forays into mainframe computer facilities, amateur theatre, educational development, pineapple canning... and many, many safaris. At this time, the former protectorates and colonies of East Africa fought for and won their modern independence.

Fast forward 3 generations to the Bishop family, born in Zanzibar territory, educated in Kenya and the UK, who met the Haylocks farming on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro - and who bring years of solid bush knowledge and expertise to the mix - so the partnership and adventure continues.

Hodi Hodi is a caring, private, family business with local knowledge and a love for sharing our adventures and stories.

Socially, culturally and environmentally responsible tourism is not only about the people who live in the places we visit, but also the positive impact on the environment. We support the local economy by employing local people and sourcing as much as possible from local villages. We participate in projects such as building schools and clinics, providing clean water and supporting local micro-enterprises. Seashells and corals must remain in their place and customers are not allowed to buy products made from ivory, endangered species, hardwood or antique objects

e would like to thank the wonderful people of East Africa for their kind and happy hospitality, which we try to emulate in our bush camp and beach houses in Tanzania, hoping that we can reflect some of the warmth and generosity we have received.

We have all asked the question "Hodi Hodi". In Swahili - may I come in? And the answer was, and still is, "Karibu" - Welcome.
