After three years of renovation, Kholle House has opened its doors! Built in 1860 for Princess Kholle, daughter of the first Sultan of Zanzibar, Kholle House offers a glimpse into the life of a Zanzibari princess. Nestled in the heart of Stone Town, Kholle House is an oasis of calm, a sanctuary in the midst of bustling city life. Our 10 charming guest rooms are designed with an elegant blend of Swahili and Creole influences. Relax in our swimming pool or enjoy the magnificent 360° view of Stone Town and the Indian Ocean from our belvedere.

Built in 1860, Kholle House was a showcase for Princess Kholle's precious collections. Here she displayed her porcelain, furniture and objects from all over the world. She entertained friends and visiting dignitaries.

Kholle House is full of history and color - with its turmeric walls, mutlicolored stained glass, soft nutmeg paving, original jet or foam marble... All a gentle reflection of Zanzibar's spicy fragrances and nuances.

Communal areas include a Directoire period salon, a lobby with marble fountain, a breakfast room, a veranda overlooking the garden, swimming pool, terrace, stuccoed arches and a gazebo at the top of the house with panoramic views of the town, port and islands off Stone Town.

Kholle House is located in the historic heart of legendary Stone Town. With its rich and vibrant history, Stone Town has fueled the imaginations of many writers, travelers and philosophers. Today, Stone Town is protected by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.
