A stone's throw from the memorial to Soviet soldiers, as if in response, stands the memorial to the victims of communism. It was built in memory of the 75,000 Estonians who were killed, imprisoned or deported by the regime. The memorial is divided into two parts. The first, the Journey, consists of two black walls engraved with the names of 22,000 victims, along with their dates and places of birth and death. The second, the Domestic Garden, is planted with apple trees and dedicated to reflection.
