A pretty hillside neighborhood of white houses surrounded by gardens and arbors.
While the town centre between Makedonia and Hristo-Botev squares is modern and pleasant, the main tourist interest of Blagoevgrad is on the other side of the Struma river, after the bridge from Makedonia square. Two or three streets on the hillside is the pretty Varocha district, formerly the Bulgarian part of the town, which was built by the National Awakening Movement in the 19th century. Typical with beautiful white houses surrounded by gardens and arbors.
