MONASTERY OF ST. JOHN-PRODROME

In Bulgarian: Свети Йоан Предтеча Продром. This Byzantine-style center of Rhodope Christianity was built between the ^6th and ^8th centuries. In 1998, the tomb of a Byzantine archbishop was discovered and since 2000, the renovated church is working again after more than 600 years of inactivity. A visit that is worth the detour; silence is mandatory, photos outside the enclosure. Another very interesting monastery, preserved, witness of the past centuries.
