TOMBUL MOSQUE (ДЖАМИЯ ТОМБУЛ)

Built in 1744 on the initiative of Halil Pasha, this religious and educational complex is the most important monument in Shoumen, the largest mosque in the country, and the second largest in the Balkans. The "Tombul" refers to the belly shape of the 25m high dome, built in Turkish Baroque style by the builder Ibrahim Nimale. It is here that young people came to learn the Koran, and to enjoy the splendid Koranic library.
