Spectacular citadel offering magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and fairy chimney forest.

One of the tourist attractions of the region. Perched on erosion-carved massifs, this spectacular citadel, partly encrusted in red sandstone, dominates the city and offers a magnificent panorama on the surrounding valleys and the forest of fairy chimneys. Initially built in Roman times, it was transformed by the Bulgarians and the Turks. The last modifications date from 1805 to 1837 and are the fact of the French and Italians invited by the sultan.

Je préconise de faire cette visite en fin de journée quand le soleil couchant éclaire le paysage. Sion, les cheminées de fée seront dans l'ombre et donc grise. Citadelle ouverte jusqu'à 20 heures cet été.
