845 km south of Algiers and 155 km east of Ghardaïa, Ouargla is a huge oasis whose palm grove has more than one and a half million date palms. At the beginning of the tenth century, the city welcomed Ibadites (Kharidjites, Mozabites) who fled Tiaret threatened by the covetousness of its neighbors. Today, Ouargla has become an important industrial center, especially in the oil industry, and an administrative center.
