A little ten miles from Adrar, this ancient capital of Touat, built around an ever-standing ksar, has long been an important caravanière step between Sijilmassa in Morocco and Mali. Discovered in the surrounding area, an idol with a head of ram, which came to the ancient numidian cult, shows that the site was very early chosen to celebrate divine grandeur. But in fact, Tamentit owes his fame to the creation of a Jewish republic that had elected him for religious and commercial capital. Present in North Africa before our age but above all after the fall of Jerusalem in 70 after J.-C. and repression in Cyrenaica (Libya) by the Roman Marcius Turbo in 115 after J-C, Jews were gradually pushed back to the south to settle in these hostile desert areas they were able to build in oasis. And Tamentit, located on the major shopping routes crossing the desert, could only be welcoming. A stele can still be seen in Hebrew. More recently, the artisanal tradition of Touat, which, alongside the pottery made by women, saw the development of the black ceramics of Touat.See in the surrounding areas the oases of Mekra, Bouda, Mansour, El-Ahmar Tazoult, Khanzan, Tsabit, Tamest, Zaouiet Kounta, etc.
