On the south of the Great Erg, on the left bank of Saoura, which gave its name to the region to the south-east of Bechar, Blessed-Abbès is a beautiful oasis of the Saoura whose origin dates back to the th century, even though vestiges of the Paleolithic and Neolithic have been found there. Each year, Blessed-Abbès is the starting point of spring moussem and celebrates Méditerranéo-African music during the festival Les Nuits de la Saoura, which takes place at the end of December (to learn more: www.nuits-metis.org). Each festival gives rise to a meeting between young people from Saoura and young people from the Marseille region who come to participate in the restoration of a maison house.
