Bejaïa's military fortress, founded in Hammadite times, recounts its legendary past and the exodus of its inhabitants.
The historic village of Kalaa Eth Abbès is perched at 900 m altitude in the mountains of the Bibans. It can be reached by the road that goes up to Ighil Ali from Akbou, the village of Jean and Taos Amrouche, famous Kabyle writers. Kalaa Ath Abbès, with its traditional stone houses, has kept all the charm of its legendary past despite time, the battles that have intensively destroyed it and the exodus of its inhabitants. Founded during the Hammadite period, the Kalaa, as its name indicates, was then a military fortress.
